about me
lisa pallmeyer, MA, LPC-S, LSSP

I believe that all people have the ability to heal themselves. In my counseling practice I foster that ability in my clients, so that they are better able to understand themselves and their emotional responses. I give my clients a mental framework to help them make sense of the chaos and trauma within and around themselves. Life is not always kind and gentle, but I help people build the tools they need to meet the past, present and future head on.
I have ten years of experience providing counseling and psychological services in public schools. I am particularly skilled in working with adolescents who feel isolated, anxious, depressed, or outside the social norm. Another strength I have is helping young people through life transitions, such as coming out to peers, trying to find their place in a newly blended family, or acclimating to the first year at college.

therapy and therapeutic approaches
In my practice I use nonverbal forms of therapy, such as art, play therapy and sand tray. I also use traditional talk therapy, often supplemented with nonverbal tasks when people have difficulty expressing themselves aloud. The techniques and therapeutic approaches I use are tailored to each client based on their needs, learning style and temperament. I always start from a person-centered perspective, and my treatment is heavily influenced by systems theory and developmental psychology. Other types of therapy I use include: interpersonal, solution focused brief therapy, humanistic sand tray, narrative, and cognitive behavior therapy.
